Tree-ring dating shows that the oak timbers for the island stronghold at Biskupin were felled mostly in 738–737 BCE. The settlement held about a hundred timber houses laid out along plank streets inside a rampart and breakwater. Within the broader Bronze & Iron Age period: In the late Bronze and early Iron Ages the Lusatian and Pomeranian cultures built fortified settlements such as Biskupin, while Celtic and early Germanic groups introduced new technologies and long-distance trade.
