# Congress of Kraków (1364)

Casimir hosted emperors and kings in Kraków; legend tells of a feast given by the merchant Wierzynek. Within the broader Restored Kingdom period: Władysław the Elbow-high and Casimir the Great rebuilt a united Kingdom of Poland, codifying laws, founding a university and expanding to the south-east, before the crown passed to the Angevins. At this point in the timeline (1364), the governing authority was Casimir III the Great (King of Poland). Last Piast king; codified law, founded the Kraków Academy, fortified the country and expanded it into Red Ruthenia.
