# Union of Krewo (1385)

Grand Duke Jogaila of Lithuania agreed to accept baptism, marry Jadwiga and join Lithuania to Poland, creating a union that lasted four centuries. Within the broader Restored Kingdom period: Władysław the Elbow-high and Casimir the Great rebuilt a united Kingdom of Poland, codifying laws, founding a university and expanding to the south-east, before the crown passed to the Angevins. At this point in the timeline (14 August 1385), the governing authority was Jadwiga (King of Poland). Crowned 'king' in 1384; her marriage to Jogaila created the Polish–Lithuanian union.
