# Christianisation of Lithuania (1387)

Jagiełło led the baptism of Lithuania and founded the Diocese of Vilnius, bringing the last pagan state in Europe into Latin Christendom. Within the broader Jagiellonian Age period: The union with Lithuania created one of Europe's largest states. Victory over the Teutonic Order, the rise of noble democracy and a brilliant Renaissance culture marked the Jagiellonian golden age. At this point in the timeline (1387), the governing authority was Jadwiga (King of Poland), together with Władysław II Jagiełło (King of Poland). Crowned 'king' in 1384; her marriage to Jogaila created the Polish–Lithuanian union. Canonised in 1997.
