# Ossolineum founded (1817)

Józef Maksymilian Ossoliński founded the Ossoliński National Institute in Lviv, a library and publishing house that became a treasury of Polish culture. It moved to Wrocław after 1945. Within the broader Napoleonic & Congress Poland period: Poles fought beside Napoleon in hope of restoring their state, gaining the Duchy of Warsaw. After 1815 the Congress Kingdom of Poland enjoyed a constitution under the Russian tsar until the November Uprising. At this point in the timeline (1817), the governing authority was Alexander I (King of Poland (Tsar of Russia)). Russian tsar who granted Congress Poland a liberal constitution in 1815.
