# Polish Socialist Party founded (1892)

Émigrés meeting in Paris founded the Polish Socialist Party (PPS), which combined socialism with the goal of an independent Poland. Józef Piłsudski became one of its leaders. Within the broader Partitioned Poland period: Without a state, Poles preserved their nation through uprisings, emigration, Romantic literature, 'organic work' and modern political movements, while facing Russification and Germanisation.
